One of my most famous/viewed Road Rage Caught On Dashcam videos from 2014 that’s still being discussed in the comments to this very day came to mind this morning when I was behind THE STAR OF THAT VIDEO:

Kinja'd!!!

Notice that the light is a-green and they aren’t a-goin’.

The driver then proceeded to drive on the shoulder/parking lane and maintain a speed five miles an hour under the limit, much to the chagrin of myself and the other traffic trying to get to work this morning.

As I later passed when the road widened to two lanes, I saw it was an older male driver this time, not the female I had encountered on that fateful day in 2014:

Small world. Also I need to get a dashcam.

This reminds me, yet again, that I really need to get a dash cam. I had 3 very close calls in the last 2 weeks from people running stop signs near my apartment.

What brand do you have? Do you like it? Is there something newer that you’re familiar with that you’d recommend?

I have a pair of“G1W” cams now that were cheap but good. The suction cup mount sucks and it rattles/vibrates a bit, and in hot climates the on board battery likes to fail.

But they have capacitor models out there now, and many many others on the market. Even Garmin makes one. If cost were no object I would go with a dual channel set up that integrates into the rearview mirror because it would solve two of my biggest gripes:

1. Mounting location sucks, and its super visible in the windshield

2. Rear camera is separate and I have to pull BOTH SD cards and keeping the clocks synced on them is a pain.

As long as she was moving faster than traffic in the right lane, she had every right to move over to the left. You we’re overly aggressive flashing your lights. You are not guaranteed a speed.

She exacerbated an already bad situation by fucking with you and then lying to the cops, but you started it and could have avoided the whole damn thing by simply letting your foot off the gas, giving her a chance to move back over, and then resuming your speed. (You are guilty of mild road rage and she is guilty of lying to the police, so she’s worse but you started it)

I know this because this could have easily been me. I like to cruise along at a set speed. It’s a little lower, usually, than what the fastest traffic wants to cruise at, and a little higher than what the slowest traffic wants to cruise at. I use the left lanes to pass slower traffic as I come to it. Sometimes that means somebody else has to slow down.

First, a signal does not guarantee you or her or anyone right of way. She braked to slow herself EVEN MORE before cutting me off. And yes, she cut me off. It looks a lot farther away due to the lens of the camera than it was.

Second, I had to brake, not just let off the gas. My speed was not a factor, her forcing herself into the safe gap I had to the next car ahead WAS.

The truth of the matter is, if you’re going to be causing someone who is in the left lane preparing to pass you at a faster rate than you can maintain to brake to let you in? YOU DON’T CHANGE LANES. Unless there was some danger to her or you or anyone, you stay put and deal with the traffic entering your lane. She could have easily maintained her speed and let the Matrix, WHO’S LEGAL OBLIGATION AS SOMEONE WHO IS MERGING, slow down/speed up as needed to merge ahead or behind her. Its not like it was a fucking semi she was letting in.

Sorry for the caps and all that, I just don’t understand why you don’t understand how driving works.

Why does this not apply to you? Why must she deal with people entering her lane and you do not. She is allowed to merge to pass. Or is it that, to you, no one is ever allowed to get in front of you ever?

And yes, she cut me off. It looks a lot farther away due to the lens of the camera than it was.

Perhaps this is true, but you saw what was going to happen when she started signaling. You could have let it happen and everything would have worked out smoothly and nicely. She was being nice by moving to the right to let cars pass, and then moving back as she needed to pass. This is the way things work.

Do you get pissed off like this a lot while driving? Does that maybe signal to you that what you’re doing is not what everyone else thinks is right? You had the opportunity to be nice, to allow traffic to flow, and instead you chose to be rude. Then act surprised when someone was rude back.

I’m not saying you’re a bad person, or a bad driver, or even technically wrong. I am saying you had the chance to be nice, you chose to be rude, and that is what caused the problem.

Or, think about it this way, if I forfeit my right to be in the left lane by moving over to let people pass, that isn’t much motivation for me to let people pass now is it?

You’re one of the lost causes. You will never understand so I urge you to please read your state’s laws on driving and try to be a better person out on the road.
